There are 5 levels of progression at Tomo Japanese Language School. For the course description of each level, please click on the links below.

 

Beginner (For totally new learners)

Our lessons include learning of Grammar, Vocabulary, Conversation and Writing. Upon the completion of every level, not only can you start to speak, read and write like a Japanese; you will also be well-equipped to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, better known as JLPT.

 

 
 
 
 
 
 

[Speak, Read, Write Japanese Casually] [For totally new learners]

Frequency: Once a week

Duration: 1 term x 10 lessons (10 weeks)

S$390/term (Additional Textbook $10). There will be no registration fees and no GST.

 

This course aims to help new learners pick up basic Japanese and progress to higher levels of proficiency. Within the first 10 lessons, you will start to read and communicate in Japanese, to initiate conversations on many topics like your country, friends, job, etc. You will also have the chance to write emails and letters in Japanese.

 

Besides textbooks, interesting learning materials like guidebooks, maps, manga, and pop songs will be used, so that you can understand and appreciate the usage of the language in a practical setting. With lessons held in a conducive and friendly environment, you are certain to enjoy the learning process and easily remember what has been taught.

 

After this course, Japanese Language Proficiency Test, or better-known as JLPT, (N5 level), will be recommended to those who want to gauge their proficiency level. And this beginners course will become a basic speaking class ( same time slot ) for students who has completed beginners class.

 

WHO SHOULD JOIN

  • Students who have interest in Japanese culture and the language

  • Students who have learned Japanese before and would like to review basic Japanese.

  • Students who have travelled or will travel to Japan, and hope to communicate in Japanese

  • Students who use basic Japanese language in their work

 

[Speak, Read, Write Japanese Easily] [For short-term learners who have learned Hiragana]

Frequency: Once a week

Duration: 6 terms x 10 lessons/term (60 weeks)

S$390/term. Additional one-time textbook fee of $35 (for use over 6 terms). There will be no registration fees and no GST.

Basic Course (Part 5&6) is equivalent to Minna no nihongo Chapters 17-24, and Nihongo Daichi Chapters 17-22.

Frequency: Once a week

Duration: 6 terms x 10 lessons/term (60 weeks)

S$390/term. Additional one-time textbook fee of $35 (for use over 6 terms). There will be no registration fees and no GST.

 

This course aims to help budding learners master basic Japanese and progress to become intermediate-level speakers. The focus of this course is on the use of the widely used Plain form, which is crucial in casual conversations.

 

Besides textbooks, interesting learning materials like guidebooks, maps, manga, and pop songs will be used, so that you can understand and appreciate the usage of the language in a practical setting. With lessons held in a conducive and friendly environment, you are certain to enjoy the learning process and easily remember what has been taught

 

What you'll learn in Intermediate Course (Part 1&2) is equivalent to Chapters 25 - 28 of "Minna no nihongo" (a familiar textbook used by a few schools) and Chapters 23 - 28 of "Nihongo daichi".

 

Intermediate Course (Part 3&4) is equivalent to Minna no nihongo Chapters 29-36, and Nihongo Daichi Chapters 29 - 35.

 

Intermediate Course (Part 5&6) is equivalent to Minna no nihongo Chapters 37-50, and Nihongo Daichi Chapters 36 - 42.

 

After this course, Japanese Language Proficiency Test, or better-known as JLPT, (N4, 5 level), will be recommended to those who want to gauge their proficiency level.

 

WHO SHOULD JOIN

  • Students who have taken JLPT N4 or N5

  • Students who intend to attempt JLPT N4 or N3

  • Students who can write and read Hiragana

  • Students who have learned Japanese in the past and would like to take a refresher cours

  • Students who have travelled or will be travelling to Japan, and hope to communicate in Japanes

  • Students who use basic Japanese language in their work

  • Students who have interest in Japanese culture

 

 

 

[Speak, Read, Write and Listen to Japanese Naturally]

Frequency: Once a week

Duration: 6 terms x 10 lessons/term (60 weeks)

S$390/term (Additional 1~3 Term $35, 4 Term $15, 5~6 Term $35 Textbook Fee Respectively) There will be no registration fees & no GST.

 

This course aims to help serious learners master Japanese progressively to become an expert in the language. It is catered for those who have learned a wide range of grammar but can't fluently express what they want to say. 

 

Interesting learning materials like guidebooks, maps, manga, and pop songs will be used, so that you can dramatically improve both your speaking and listening skills. With lessons held in a conducive and friendly environment, you are certain to enjoy the learning process and easily remember what has been taught. The textbook that will be used in this course focuses on speaking, an important component which is often overlooked in many language schools. 

 

The Pre-advanced Course is for those who have completed up to chapter 50 of "Minna no nihongo" (a familiar textbook used by a few schools). 

 

After this course, Japanese Language Proficiency Test, or better-known as JLPT, (N3 level), will be recommended to those who want to gauge their proficiency level.

 

WHO SHOULD JOIN

  • Students who have passed JLPT N3 or N4

  • Students who would like to pass JLPT N2 or N3

  • Students who want to improve their speaking skill 

  • Students who can read, write and listen Japanese but cannot quickly express what they want to say

  • Students who wish to improve their conversational skills but are not able do so in other schools as the lesson focus is on reading

 

[Speak, Read, Write and Listen to Japanese Proficiently]

Frequency: Once a week

Duration: 6 terms x 10 lessons/term (60 weeks)

S$390/term (Additional 1~2 Term $30, 3~4 Term $15, 5~6 Term $30 Textbook Fee Respectively) No registration fees & no GST.

 

This course aims to help students acquire high-level Japanese language skills. The standard of this course is equivalent to JLPT N2 level. This higly-interactive course focuses on speaking and helps students improve their speaking skill through friendly conversations with the teacher and fellow classmates.

 

WHO SHOULD JOIN

  • Students who have taken JLPT N2 or N3

  • Students who would like to try JLPT N1 or N2

  • Students who have learned up to the Plain form and would like to review intermediate-level grammar

  • Students who can read, write and listen Japanese but cannot quickly express what they want to say

  • Students who wish to improve their conversational skills but are not able do so in other schools as the lesson focus is on reading

  • Students who want to enjoy Japanese movies and dramas without the need for subtitles
